Don't Need No Starbucks

I love chai tea lattes. Pretty simple drink, a little bit of milk, couple spoonfuls of sugar, and a cup of chai tea. Easy enough. I make 'em all the time at my house without having to spend an arm and a leg (aka $4.25) at Starbucks.

Thankfully, we have an alternative here at my good ol' school. We have a cute little coffee shop in the basement of one of our cafeterias. It's called Mocha Joe's and it's a typical place to drink coffee and visit with friends, complete with pool tables and ping pong matches every day.

I went there tonight with some friends to study and chit chat. Before we got to studying, we ordered our drinks at Mocha's. I ordered a chai tea latte because I had never tried it here and figured it couldn't be all that bad. Remember, this is an easy drink to make.

The barista rung up my order and said "That will be $2.75." I kind of laughed to myself thinking, is this some kind of trick? Is it 'Everything is 1/2 off today' day? Am I being punk'd? Well, whatever the reason, I looked up at him and said "Wow! This is so much cheaper than Starbucks!" He was less than enthused when he replied with a "Yeah."

Hey, I was satisfied, he couldn't steal my thunder.

Howdy Ya'll

This weekend was very eventful and included me meeting new people (YAY!), dancing at a hoedown, and watching buses drive around in the figure eight.

Friday night all of us girls went out to celebrate Libby and Abby's birthday. We went to Olive Garden (all 17 of us) and I got to spend some quality time with some girls that are great! Nothing too eventful happened there, we ate, laughed, ate some more, oh and I wore a dress. Note to self: don't wear a dress on a windy day and take pictures outside when you can't hold your dress down. Anyway, after we got back from the restaurant we got all dressed up like cowgirls and went to the square dance. That was kind of a fail considering the boys there were being completely anti-social and didn't want to dance with any of us girls for more than half a song. Boys, you know who you were, yes, all three of you that ditched me. It actually ended up being a really fun night, though. A handful of us ended up at Steak N' Shake eating those delicious, crisp fries, and talking about the events (or lack thereof) of the evening. Note to self again: don't wear a dress and sit in the backseat of a car on top of three other people while two boys are in front.

Saturday was pretty eventful as well. I woke up around lunch time and procrastinated doing my homework. Haven food was our dinner for that night (not as appetizing as Olive Garden, but better than the MP), and after dinner we got dressed up like hicks and headed towards the Anderson Speedway for the Night of Thrills. The Night of Thrills is probably one of the funnest evenings that you will ever experience. Just imagine: school buses driving around in a figure eight track, on the verge of T-boning another bus (don't worry, no kids were aboard). People that were at the Speedway raced their cars, yes their very own cars, like the ones they drive to work. That race is nuts because you don't want to see anyone crash their car but at the same time you want to see a good crash (with no injuries of course). After the races were over, we headed to IHOP, only the best place in the world to order Nutella Crepes. The night didn't end there. We ended this very fun evening sitting in Dunn Lobby playing fishbowl. Fishbowl is a game very similar to charades and Catch Phrase, but so much more fun. We all headed off to bed once my team dominated, of course.

Sunday morning means church. Kristina and I went to East Side together and afterward went to the MP to get some brunch. By the way, brunch the the absolute best thing that a college student could ever ask for. French toast, biscuits and gravy, scrambles eggs. All for just one meal. Get it while it's hot. After we finished our meals, we headed back and rested most of the afternoon and while dinner time came around, Haven was our choice of food yet again. After dinner is where this day heats up. Fishbowl was played yet again, with different people, though, to make things more interesting. Fun times.

Thank goodness for Labor day. I slept in today til noon and woke up to the sound of people laughing, and very loud music. Labor day volleyball! Kristina, Carrie, Abbey and I all went out for some volleyball fun while trying not to get sunburned. We headed in early because we all procrastinated homework these last few days, so today was definitely a homework kind of day. We decided for dinner, Panera was the best option, obviously. After a scrumptious dinner, it was back to the books. Not a very fun way to end the evening, but satisfying, knowing that I got everything done.

I give this weekend an A+.

Vending Machines

We have all used a vending machine. They are stoked full of chips, sweets, and even sometimes, ice cream. Once you put your money in the slot, the item of your choice is supposed to come out of that twirly thing and down to the bottom of the machine. Easy enough.

Not for this one girl.

I sat in a lobby of a building at my school as many other student surrounded me, reading and studying. This one girl to my left was a wiggle worm, she couldn't sit still as she was reading. She sat so I could see her out of my peripheral vision, making her every move apparent to me.

After about five minutes of vigorous reading, she put her book down and pulled out her wallet. This girl grabbed a dollar or two and headed over to the vending machine. I watched her put in her money and push the two buttons to get her snack. She stood there with hands on her hips as she watched the vending machine to absolutely nothing. She cocked her head to the side and kind of did that shake-the-machine-maybe-I-will-get-my-snack-this-way thing and she stood there hopelessly and accepted the fact that the machine had stolen her money.

She goes back to her seat, picks her book back up, and begins reading again. The girl reads for about two short minutes and apparently realizes she REALLY wants that snack and pulls out another couple of bucks from her wallet. So, she walks over to the machine and puts her money in and pushes the buttons, just like before.

And the same thing happens.

Hands on hips, head cocked to the side. Frustrated now, she stats shaking the machine more forcefully than the time before (yes, there are about ten other people on this little room who are probably watching her like me).

When she doesn't get her snack by shaking the machine, she decides desperate times call for desperate measures. She proceeds to reach her hand up that little swinging door in hopes of grabbing her snack. After doing this for a couple of minutes, this girl realizes that, yes, the machine of food has indeed won.

I sat there and kind of laughed to myself the whole time, feeling a little bit sorry for this girl because I know how it feels when a piece of technology beats you.

She left angrily and I kept reading my book for my next class. Little did I know, she was in that class with me. She sat next to me and introduced herself and I really wanted to tell her that I had just watched her struggle for the last twenty minutes of her life and that I felt her pain.

But I didn't. It's me little secret. Hehehehe.
